‘...When I was photographing the women I was struck by their level of trust in me and in the camera. I see the same level of intimacy in Teunissen’s Domestic Landscapes, and in Vermeer’s Milkmaid. Although there is the obvious intrusion upon their world it is done in such a gentle way that the subject allows that intimacy to show in the photograph. There is the sense of looking into a private world, of being allowed access into somewhere that is not normally accessible to strangers.’
